Partnering with Community

Supporting communities starts with providing access to affordable healthy food options, but did you know that CEQ is a great partner of community events?

CEQ strives to support our community through the Good Pasin (Give-back) Program.

CEQ’s Good Pasin (Give-back) program actively demonstrates our support of the communities in which we operate. Our Good Pasin (Give-back) program framework is aligned with the Queensland Government’s Local Thriving Communities Reform Integrated Development categories.

During 2023-24, CEQ provided more than $642,000 in financial and in-kind assistance to not-for profit organisations and individuals across various communities, with approximately 400 requests to support community initiatives.

This financial support is critical in enabling various programs and events to thrive, empowering community members and ensuring their needs are met.

Through our supermarkets in particular, CEQ actively supports our communities in many ways such as:

  • Supporting healthy breakfast programs in schools
  • Supporting attendance programs in schools
  • Donating water to community events and activities
  • Sponsoring major community events and celebrations such as NAIDOC week
  • Sponsoring Coming of the Light events in many Torres Strait Island communities
  • Sponsoring smaller community events through the supply of fresh food or gift cards
  • Offering fortnightly specials on fresh food and groceries
  • Assistance provided during sad news/sorry business

CEQ is a proud sponsor of this important cultural event in many of our Torres Strait and Aboriginal communities.

CQUniCares Community Enterprise Queensland Scholarship

The CQUniCares Scholarship program is part of CEQ’s Good Pasin (Give-back) program which has evolved into a formalised community reinvestment initiative, aligned with 17 of the 19 socio-economic targets of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, the UN Declaration on the Right of Indigenous People, and an integrated sustainable development framework.

The CQUniCares Community Enterprise Queensland Scholarships will provide recognition and financial assistance to deserving students who either reside in, or be closely connected with CEQ-serviced communities across the Torres Strait, NPA and remote First Nations communities.

Enterprise & Engagement

The Enterprise and Engagement Team focuses on building, supporting and maintaining strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including customers, communities, employees, local government, community service organisations and other key stakeholder groups of regional Queensland.

The Enterprise and Engagement Team is actively involved in working with communities to identify local priorities, form local partnerships, and provide supporting mechanisms to achieve positive outcomes through delivery of enterprise support, sponsorship initiatives or joint training opportunities to enhance workforce capabilities. A prominent focal point is on Growth where we deliver smart growth and extend our reach. The foundation of this focal point is built upon providing:

  • Skill Development;
  • Educational Opportunities;
  • Personal Growth;
  • Economic Empowerment;
  • Social and Cultural Awareness; and importantly
  • Youth Capabilities.

To make sure s60B(c) of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Justice, Land and Other Matters) Act 1984 is satisfied, crucial investments in appropriate tools and resources are made to assure positive impact in regional Queensland, communities, and beyond.
